Description For Lab #2 - Mass Of A Washer
Objective: To determine the best value for the mass of a single washer.
In this experiment the student is charged with the task of determining the average mass of an individual washer from a sample of washers. The student is provided with a balance that is limited to measuring in units of 10 grams while the mass of an individual washer is less than 10 grams. Each time the student presses "Take Reading" in the simulation a new, random sample of washers is placed on the balance. The number of washers in the sample can be changed by using the slider at the bottom of the simulation. It is left to the student to design a procedure that will determine the best value (with an uncertainty) for the average mass of a washer from the sample.
